Al fresco on the waterfront, framed by climbing roses and string lights at dusk. Cocktail hours, plated dinners, and ceremonies under the Chesapeake sky.

Book-lined, firelit, and intimate. Rehearsal dinners, board retreats, whisky tastings, and small celebrations that want warmth over grandeur.

With 42 rooms, a block here means the hotel is genuinely yours. Groups of 8+ rooms earn 10–15% off, and courtesy holds cost nothing for 30 days.

For groups of 8+ rooms we open a courtesy block — no deposit for the first 30 days — with a private booking code your guests use directly.

One coordinator handles menus with Chef Hartwell, floristry, AV, welcome amenities, and the rooming list. You approve; we execute.

One master folio, staggered arrivals handled by the front desk, and a concierge on duty from first check-in to last farewell brunch.
Planning Questions
We block between 10 and 40 of our 42 rooms. Courtesy blocks are free to hold for the first 30 days; after that, unreserved rooms release back to general sale automatically. Contracted blocks with attrition terms are available for conferences that need a firm commitment.
Groups of eight or more rooms receive 10–15% off best available rate depending on season and length of stay, with the deepest discounts November through March. Wedding blocks also receive a complimentary upgrade to a suite for the couple.
Yes — that is how most blocks run. Guests book with your private code online or by phone, pay individually, and we consolidate the rooming list for you. A single master folio is also available if the host prefers to cover rooms.
No. The Library, Terrace, and Ballroom can each be hired on their own. That said, event hosts who add a room block of ten rooms or more receive 10% off the venue hire fee.
All food and beverage at The Alderton comes from The Compass Rose kitchen. Chef Hartwell builds each event menu seasonally around Chesapeake sourcing — blue crab, rockfish, Eastern Shore produce — and accommodates dietary requirements with notice.
For Saturday weddings in May, June, September, or October, 12–18 months. For room blocks around Naval Academy events — Commissioning Week especially — a year is wise. Smaller Library dinners can often be arranged within a few weeks.
